DFPM Statement on the Office for Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion

The University of Utah Department of Family and Preventive Medicine is whole-heartedly and unequivocally committed to Equity, Diversity and Inclusion. We strive to cultivate an anti-racist and unbigoted community of belonging. We condemn any discrimination or hateful behavior. We value all characteristics that make our students, staff and faculty diverse including various ethnic, racial, educational, geographic, religious, political & economic backgrounds; sex, sexual orientations & gender identities; ages; skills and abilities. We recognize that diversity is necessary for success. The DFPM relies on diversity to improve the education, learning and professional experiences for all its members. As we create and sustain equity, inclusion and diversity we will realize our vision to expand the possibilities of health for all individuals and communities.

We acknowledge that this land, which is named for the Ute Tribe, is the traditional and ancestral homeland of the Shoshone, Paiute, Goshute, and Ute Tribes. The University of Utah recognizes and respects the enduring relationship that exists between many Indigenous peoples and their traditional homelands. We respect the sovereign relationship between tribes, states, and the federal government, and we affirm the University of Utah’s commitment to a partnership with Native Nations and Urban Indian communities through research, education, and community outreach activities.
