Racism as a Public Health Threat Lecture Series

The University of Utah Division of Public Health is proud to announce “Racism as a Public Health Threat,” an annual lecture series. Created in response to the killing of George Floyd on May 25, 2020, in Minneapolis, Minnesota, this series reflects the moral and political struggle around issues of systemic racism and inequity. This lecture series seeks to demonstrate what we fiercely believe to be true: that the physical and mental health of the whole of society is negatively impacted when racist attitudes and practices are allowed to continue uncontested. The series selects speakers whose community and intellectual efforts help connect this understanding.

David N. Sundwall Lectureship

The David N. Sundwall Lectureship was established to recognize the contributions that Dr. Sundwall, Professor Emeritus, Division of Public Health has made in the public health field throughout his career.

The series has brought public health policy leaders from all over the world to discuss and share their experiences in public health. We set up the lecture series to continue Sundwall’s legacy in public health policy and to bring distinguished policy experts to honor that legacy,” said Dr. Kimberley Shoaf, a professor of the University of Utah’s Division of Public Health.
