Services and Programs
Research Operations and Support Enterprise (ROSE)
Our office is dedicated to providing specialized support and alleviating administrative burdens for FMPH faculty, clinicians, and staff engaged in research and scholarship.
ROSE is a resource available to FMPH faculty, scholars, and postdoctoral researchers for developing research proposals, navigating the grant cycle from conceptualization to submission, and managing funded awards. We support scholars and faculty with research development, assist with external grant applications through our Pre-Award group, provide Post-Award support on funded projects, and offer structural support for the Utah Health Research Network. Additionally, we run research support and training programs for faculty, clinicians, and staff.
Research and Scholarship Committee
The mission of the Research and Scholarship Committee is to advance the strategic research plan of the department. The committee meets monthly; membership is open to all FMPH research faculty. For additional details, contact the Committee Chair, Dr. Joseph Stanford at joseph.stanford@utah.edu.
FMPH Research Mentoring Program
We invite all FMPH clinicians, faculty new to research, and postdoctoral fellows to join our Research Mentoring Program! This monthly Fall and Spring semester program, led by Dr. Kelly Baron, PhD, MPH, DBSM, and Eliza Taylor, MPH, aims to provide research mentorship, networking opportunities, and professional development for those interested in building or enhancing foundational research skills. Topics include establishing an Individual Development Plan, developing and vetting competitive grant ideas, building a research team, working with community advisory boards, writing a winning aims page, and managing grant budgets. For more information please contact Eliza Taylor at Eliza.Taylor@utah.edu.
Health Studies Fund (HSF)
The mission of the Health Studies Fund (HSF) is to support research conducted by FMPH faculty, clinicians, and postdoctoral fellows in the context of their career development, to promote effective research teams in FMPH, and to leverage extramural funding. HSF awards are inclusive of the following:
- Research Pilot Award
- Mentored New Researcher Award
- Scholarship Award
- Open Access publication fees
- F. Marian Bishop Award
FMPH Scholars Program
The goal of the FMPH Scholars Program is to support and increase scholarship by clinical faculty, increase research collaborations amongst the 4 divisions, and to develop potential future collaborations including but not limited to 1) develop new pilot projects/grants, 2) involve clinical faculty as co-investigators on NIH and other research grants that the research faculty is leading. The objective of this program is to publish at least 2 scientific manuscripts per year per person, with the clinical faculty writing the paper as first author. The priority research themes will be investigating health disparities, including but not limited to race, ethnicity, gender, socioeconomic status, rural, and urban disparities.
Utah Women's Health Review
The Utah Women's Health Review (UWHR) is a collaboration between the University of Utah Center of Excellence in Women’s Health and Spencer S. Eccles Health Sciences Library. Although not produced by FMPH, Dr. Karen Schliep (faculty in Public Health) is the Editor-in-Chief, while other FMPH faculty serve on the editorial board and are contributors to the research published in UWHR.
Research Roundtable
This is a fantastic opportunity for research providers, faculty, staff, and students to come together, learn about others' research projects, share ideas, and discuss various stages of research. No question is too big or too small! This will also incorporate the New Proposal Working Group (NPWG), which is a forum for faculty to workshop different aspects of grant writing, including a specific aims page and discussion of summary statements and how to revise grants for future funding success. For more information please reach out to Eliza Taylor at Eliza.Taylor@utah.edu.
