International Medicine Opportunities

Core Experiences

All residents will receive the following core experiences caring for individuals in under-resourced areas.

  • Strong didactic instruction.
  • 4 weeks of Rural medicine during PGY-2 year.
  • 4 weeks or Community & Preventive Medicine rotation, which includes experiences at Maliheh, the local fee clinic and Fourth Street Clinic, the local clinic serving individuals experiencing homelessness.
  • 8 weeks adult Emergency medicine, split between PGY1 and PGY-3 year.
  • 4 weeks of pediatric Emergency Medicine during PGY-2 year

Additional Opportunities

For residents with increased interest in international training, the following supplemental educational activities are available

  • International Spanish Language Elective: 4 week elective available during PGY-1 year at a site of the resident’s choosing for intensive Spanish language learning
  • Infectious Disease Elective: Available as 2 week elective during either PGY-2 or PGY-3 years
  • Fourth Street Clinic: Elective for interested residents who desire more time at this clinic that cares for those experiencing homelessness
  • Urgent Care Elective
  • Multiple Community Engagement Opportunities
