DFPM Volunteers at Utah Food Bank

Family Medicine Division Chief Bernadette Kiraly, MD organized a community service opportunity for the Department of Family and Preventive Medicine (DFPM) faculty, staff, and providers at the Utah Food Bank in Salt Lake City in late May.

Sixteen volunteers from both the Division of Family Medicine and the Division of Public Health represented the department.

Volunteers worked in the warehouse to sort donations, pack food boxes for community distribution, and assemble food kits for home deliveries.

Education Director for the Division of Family Medicine Heather McComber was one of the volunteers. “I love volunteering at the Utah Food Bank because it feels as though I am contributing to a purpose bigger than myself,” said McComber.

The service and social event was intended for DFPM employees to meet their coworkers and reconnect with others across the department while serving the community in which we live and work. There are plans to schedule additional service opportunities in the future.
